MATERIALS
3–4 mm cotton macramé cord in purple, dark blue, turquoise, green, yellow, orange, red and pink.
4–5 mm natural cotton cord: 85 cm for the central support.
Natural cord: 2 pieces of 100 cm for the hanging loop.
1 wooden bead, approximately 4 cm.
Scissors and a tapestry needle.
PREPARATION
- Make the hanging loop using the two 100 cm natural cords.
- Place the 85 cm central cord vertically.
- Attach the colored cords around the central cord.
- Use the spiral knot throughout the entire project.
SPIRAL KNOT
Take four strands.
Bring the left strand over the center cords.
Place the right strand over the left strand.
Pass the right strand behind the center cords.
Bring the right strand through the loop on the left side.
Pull gently to tighten.
Repeat, always starting from the same side, to create the spiral.
COLOR SEQUENCE
- Purple: 18–22 knots.
- Dark blue: 18–22 knots.
- Green: 20–24 knots.
- Yellow: 20–24 knots.
- Orange: 10–12 knots.
- Red: 18–22 knots.
- Turquoise: 20–25 knots.
- Dark blue: 15–20 knots.
- Green: 18–22 knots.
- Yellow: 15–20 knots.
- Orange: about 10 knots.
- Pink: 18–20 knots.
- Purple: 12–15 knots.
- Dark blue: 15–18 knots.
- Turquoise: 10–15 knots, gradually reducing the width.
SHAPING
Keep the knots tighter in the narrow sections.
Loosen the knots slightly in the wider sections.
Gradually rotate the work to create the twisted shape.
The maximum width should be approximately 18–20 cm.
Gradually reduce the width toward the bottom until you form a point.
COLOR CHANGES
For a blended effect like the one in the photo, introduce the new color a few knots before completely finishing the previous color.
For example:
Yellow → yellow/orange → orange → orange/red → red.
FINISHING
- Finish the last turquoise section in a point.
- Leave 12–15 cm of cord.
- Pass the cords through the hole in the wooden bead.
- Tie a large finishing knot underneath the bead.
- Adjust and trim the ends.
- Make sure the hanging loop is centered and the spiral keeps its shape.
