Watermelon Slice Motifs (make 7–8 pieces)
Center (Yellow Seed Area)
With yellow yarn:
Round 1: MR, ch 2, make 10 dc into ring. Join with sl st.
Fasten off.
Pink Watermelon
Attach pink yarn.
Round 2:
Ch 2, 2 dc in each stitch around. Join.
(20 dc)
White Layer
Attach cream yarn.
Round 3:
Ch 2, (1 dc, 2 dc in next stitch) repeat around. Join.
(30 stitches)
Green Edge
Attach green yarn.
Round 4:
Ch 1, sc around evenly.
Fasten off.
You should have a small semicircle/fan-shaped watermelon slice.
Assembly of Spiral
- Make a long chain with green yarn:
- Chain approximately 70–90 stitches depending on desired length.
- Work 1 row of sc back along the chain.
- This creates the flexible spiral stem.
- Place the watermelon slices evenly along the spiral:
- Start with the largest slice at the top.
- Gradually use smaller slices toward the bottom.
- Stitch each slice onto the spiral using matching green yarn.
- Twist the green strip gently into a spiral shape and secure the ends.
Top Hanging Loop
With green yarn:
Chain 25–30 stitches
Slip stitch back along the chain to create a cord.
Attach to the top.
Make a small crochet ball:
Round 1: MR, 6 sc
Round 2: inc around (12 sc)
Round 3–4: sc around
Round 5: dec around
Stuff lightly and close.
Sew the ball above the spiral.
Bottom Tassel
Cut several cream yarn strands (15–20 cm).
Attach below the last watermelon slice.
Tie tightly at the top and trim evenly.
Finishing
- Shape the spiral by hand.
- Lightly steam block to keep the curves.
- Add small black embroidered “seeds” if desired.
Finished size: approximately 35–50 cm long depending on yarn and number of slices.
