Borek (Potato Pastry) Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Borek:
- 4 sheets of phyllo dough
- 1 cup of oil
For the Filling:
- 5 boiled potatoes
- 1 onion
- 1/2 cup of oil
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon of chili flakes
- 1 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1 teaspoon of paprika
Instructions:
- Prepare the Filling:
- Heat 1/2 cup of oil in a suitable pan. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
- Add the tomato paste, salt, chili flakes, black pepper, and paprika. Sauté until the tomato paste’s aroma is released.
- Mash the boiled potatoes in a bowl. Add the sautéed onion mixture and mix well until it reaches a mashed consistency.
- Assemble the Borek:
- Lay the first sheet of phyllo dough on a clean counter. Brush it with oil.
- Fold all four sides of the dough inward to form a square.
- Spread a portion of the potato filling evenly over the dough.
- Roll the dough up tightly and cut it into even slices.
- Bake the Borek:
- Place the borek slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Brush the tops with oil.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) until golden brown.
- Serve:
- Allow the borek to cool slightly before serving.
