Creamy Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy

Ingredients

For the patties:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

For the gravy:

  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instruction

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  2. Shape the mixture into 6 oval patties.
  3. Brown the patties in a skillet over medium-high heat for 3–4 minutes per side.
  4. Remove the patties and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, melt butter and cook onions until soft and golden.
  6. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute.
  7. Gradually whisk in beef broth until smooth.
  8. Add cream, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  9. Return the patties to the skillet and simmer for 20–25 minutes until fully cooked.
  10. Garnish with parsley and serve warm.

Method

The beef patties are first browned to develop flavor, then slowly simmered in a rich onion cream gravy. This process keeps the meat juicy while allowing the sauce to thicken and absorb all the savory flavors.
